While Jumpingoat is well known for fine coffee, we went one afternoon for a mead tasting. The view of Mount Yonah and their surrounding landscape are some of the North Georgia’s finest. We were thrilled to see they have a fenced in dog yard, possibly the only one in North Georgia too, so you have a place to come with your dog on a nice day and let them play while you enjoy a coffee or a mead. Now, admittedly, I am not very familiar with mead, and from my past experiences with mead, it was always quite sweet and syrupy. Jumpingoat change my mind entirely about mead!
Our preference is Dry wine, and based on that, the bartender, or “mead-tender,” suggested the Green Apple Cyser, the Scout, Black Current Mead, Hibiscus Mead, and Pear Cyser. My personal favorite was the Hibiscus Mead (we took home a bottle), but they were all excellent. Mead offers as much diversity as wines. There are also sweet and semi-sweet meads too, but we loved the meads recommended to us as Dry, and look forward to returning with our two dogs!
