What stunning grounds, outdoors tasting room, set-up to order from the wine bar, beautiful decor and landscaping, and spacious seating! We were lucky to visit Roo Mountain soon after they opened on a weekday, because with all the spacious seating they have, they must get a great crowd in the evenings and weekends. The grounds and landscapes are Instagram-perfect, they had a food cart with their own signature Lobster Rolls and Wagyu Beef Hot Dogs (both outstanding!). Every member of the staff we met from the wine bar to the food truck were real pros at their jobs, knowledgeable, pleasant, and experts at customer service. Roo offers a few different Wine Flight options, and we chose DRY:
- Mother Clucker (White) – Great, very Dry, approachable White Wine. Great with salads, a lunch wine, all around very pleasant. Some hints of “Granny Smith” apple, but that was possibly because we had also spent so much time in the Ellijay apple cider tasting rooms nearby!
- Zippy Buble Sparkling Traminette – A fine sparkling Traminette, really refreshing, loved it and delightful to have it sparkling. Little tart with passion fruit on the nose. Very pleasant!
- Sauvignon Blanc – Very floral on the nose, good minerality, very smooth! Citrusy finish and the PERFECT complement to our outstanding Lobster Roll!
- Petite Plume d’Or – We called this a fun “Beach wine!” or “Vacation wine!” Drank like a rum cocktail, like a rum and pineapple, almost like a Tiki cocktail. Finishes creamy almost like a Dole Whip and pineapple swirl. A great poolside summertime wine.
- Chardonnay – Really nice! A classic Chardonnay, bright acidity, would be nice with a snack fruity but not overly so, a very nice and pleasant Chardonnay even if not a fan of California Chardonnay.
- Petit Manseng – 100% Estate Grown, nice and golden in color, bit of funkiness on the nose and oranges, almost like over-ripe fruit like dried apricot. Earthy taste with natural flavor. This wine grows on you with every sip! This is a special occasion wine, one of the BEST expressions of the Manseng grape (common to North Georgia) that we have ever tried.
We look forward to returning to Roo and Please Note it is Adults Only. This fine establishment is strictly 21+ and we look forward to experiencing one of their weekend evenings, and also look forward to trying their bistro and restaurant that is open in the evenings. Take your friends to Roo and please tell them you read this wine review and recommendation here at North Georgia Culture.
