117 Green St NE, Gainesville, Georgia 30501
The downtown Gainesville square has truly come a long way in the past ten years and offers a choice of restaurant, wine bar and drinking hole. One of the newest additions, and most exciting is the North Georgia BBQ & Oyster Shop. We reviewed the Cleveland location that is just BBQ (Restaurant Review – North Georgia Barbeque – Cleveland, Georgia) so North Georgia Culture was thrilled to see the new Gainesville location.
The space is large with a fully stocked bar! The bartender was very attentive, and a real pro. We can tell when the staff are interested in serving their customers, providing good service worth rewarding, and that is the case here. We were thrilled to be able to have one of my favorite lagers, the Classic City Lager, with my brisket, which was as exceptional as it always is at the Cleveland location. The bartender understood perfectly my brisket order requesting “half fatty and half lean.” As always, the sides are exemplary, but the is also an oyster bar, so on to the oysters! We opted for a dozen oysters, half raw and half charred. The oysters were James River oysters so on the smallish to medium size as expected. The half dozen raw were perfectly shucked and well presented, and they we also order a half dozen char-broiled, and they were perfectly prepared, required nothing extra, and we could have ordered another dozen (at least!). In addition to the main entree of brisket we also ordered as a main entree the fried oysters (Give us all the oysters!), and they were perfection too. So we highly recommend North Georgia BBQ’s latest expansion in Gainesville, and LOVE that they have oysters, which are NOT readily available in North Georgia. Remember to tip 15-20% for the fine food and fine service and please tell them you read a review on NorthGeorgiaCulture.com!
