When you take the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway train out of Blue Ridge, Georgia to McCaysville, Georgia for a drink, lunch, sites and shopping, you can stop into the first location with a liquor license, which is right there, or you can take a short walk and cross into Copperhill, Tennessee and go to the LAST place with a liquor license. We opted to take a walk and try out Buck Bald Brewing. We were the first customers of the day so had the good fortune to speak with the proprietor and learn about the brews they craft there on site. We are lager people, which may come off as simplistic compared to aficionados of IPA, ales and craft beers, but lagers are a very complex recipe that require precision craftsmanship to maintain and ensure consistency with each batch. We opted for the Tater Creek Pilsner, which is close to a lager, and the Gambler’s Gem, an award winning British Golden Ale with a great name! Both were pleasant and refreshing for our hot summer day in town. The Pilsner was easy drinkin’ as described and the Golden Ale was complex, almost like a white wine as it delivered different flavors and tastes each sip. See on their menu that they offer a very wide range of different beers. The bar was open air so great for a nice day. We don’t know the set-up when inclement weather but they do have a small seating area inside, and we love that you can see the casks and brewing equipment right there. What was so cool is that the location was an old Esso gas station that has been abandoned and in disrepair for a number of years. The proprietors gave this gas station a new look and a new lease, and it is very charming. The fact that it was originally a gas station explains why it sits so close to the railroad tracks and also is at the end, or beginning of the main strip, depending on which way you are driving into town. Since we arrived on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railways train we only had time for one round, but highly recommend visiting Buck Bald Brewing first when you arrive in town, and then tour the rest of Copperhill and McCaysville as you walk back to the train station. We also LOVE they are open every day, 12pm noon to 8pm. Please tell them you read a review on NorthGeorgiaCulture.com!
