We dropped by Sweet Acre tasting room for final tasting of the day, and we were delighted by the space, the wine bartender was charming, pleasant, and informed about their wines (we went home with a bottle), our only hope is that more folks start considering these wine tasting rooms in North Georgia as a bar to socialize, hang out with friends, bring a date, happy hour. We liked that the wines were clearly labeled and laid out as Dry and Sweet as we prefer and tasted their Dry wines. We learned from the wine bartender that Sweet Acre was a winery in North Georgia that burned down tragically, so this tasting room is their extension to remain part of the wine community and part of North Georgia Culture. Well, they did a fine job of decorating the tasting room that again is set up for you to socialize with friends, a date, or co-workers. Here are our impressions and observations of the Dry wines we tried in late June 2025 and please note they source their wines from other vineyards, so it is truly “a tasting room for North Georgia”:
High Hope 2023 White from Norton Winery – Super drinkable (almost in a dangerous way!), so smooth and delightful
2019 Harmony – Bit of gasoline on the nose, a little jammy, very drinkable
Newby Farms 2022 Blanc du Bois – Very interesting and delightful, a bouquet of flowers on the nose, a lot going on, lychee, pear, we called it “a blend of none of our business!”
2021 Newby Farms Villard Blanc – Lactic scent, like a Dry fruit punch, almost like a Dry Capri Sun, a lot of fun
Lake Russell 2020 Chardonnay – Unoaked, so a lot of funk going on, very pleasant
Lake Russell 2020 Cab – Same finish as the Lake Russell chardonnay, just in a Red, very pleasant
So when in Helen, please consider Sweet Acre tasting room for a place to hang out and enjoy local wines. They introduced us to some new wineries, we walked out with a bottle that we drank that night so I can not remember which one it was, but we had a great time and will return.
Remember to please always, any drinking establishment, tip 15-20% of your tab, and please tell them you read a review on NorthGeorgiaCulture.com.
