700 Ridge Point Dr, Dahlonega, Georgia 30533
Writing a less than flattering review is difficult for North Georgia Culture as we want to support business and commerce of North Georgia, but we do not know what else to say about our visit to Frogtown. We knew of Frogtown from some friends who got married there before 2020, and held a glorious and glamorous reception and got to take pictures in the old timey car they have on premise, so their catered and expensive event was a success. We went on a Thursday afternoon and our experience was different. The grounds are gorgeous and the scenery and landscape are ideal for photos. When we entered the tasting room however, we were greeted by a member of the bar staff and we thought we placed our order, but she left, and then someone else asked if we were being taken care of, and we said “yes,” and then later on someone else asked us if we were being taken care of, and we said “we don’t know? we don’t think so?” How would we know at this point. We think the staff were just completing one request or drink at a time instead of multi-tasking and taking more than one order and taking care of more than one request.
First, the tasting was pricey at $30 for 3 wines. They were almost full glasses, heavy pours, so it was like ordering your 3 wines right at the beginning. We would have preferred a lower price point, and lower volume of course, in order to taste each wine and determine what we wanted afterwards. But we just had 3 almost full glasses of wine, in addition to a 4th wine we wanted to try, not believing that the tasting pours were nearly full glasses of wine. Also, the tastings are in glasses with a colored stripe that connects to one of the wines of the same color on the menu. We are not sure if our wines matched the color code, but here are our observations from our Dry selections:
2023 Rose de Grenache – Nice Dry style rose, same grape as the 2022 Grenache Blanc.
2022 Grenache Blanc – Was not chilled for some reason, but was Dry and perfectly nice, and we would be able to share more were it chilled.
The muscadine wine was Dry, easy to drink, muscadine back notes, and very grape forward.
Unfortunately we did not believe our other wines matched the color codes so we find it hard to review the other wines, and considering we were never visited again by any staff, we did not feel like going up and asking. Maybe they were having a bad day, but we saw one party, a family walk in, and for some reason they were seated far away from the main seating area, and it looked like they were just following what they were told, but I did not understand why you would not seat them in the main room, in order to serve them, and other tables at the same time. So to conclude, our belief is the winery benefits from the grand space, landscape and views for private events, but we would probably go up the street if just the two of us again.
