North Georgia Culture spent a very hot North Georgia day in early July 2025 enjoying the chilled wines at Currahee and listening to their excellent entertainer that day, singer L.C. Branch. Curahee has been around since 2009, they make all their wines there on property, and the grounds were apple orchards before it became a winery and vineyard. Currahee’s tasting room is on beautiful grounds with a stellar view of the North Georgia mountain; it is a rustic, straight forward intimate wooden enclosed area that is set up well for parties from 2 to 8, you may bring your own food or order Domino’s, and the gentleman singing and playing his guitar was excellent and a surprise as he tours throughout North and South Carolina, and the North Georgia performance was a special one. The gentleman sang originals as well as covers by The Eagles and his voice reminded me a little of Blues Traveler. Now on to the wine and our observations and wine review:
Pinot Grigio – A little tart, cool and refreshing for a hot day, and this was a hot day!
Miss Lilly – Named after the owner’s mother, a blend of Pinot and Symphony, floral, very nice, and very cold which again was perfect for a hot North Georgia day. It had tropical fruit vibes, smelled like Vacation! and was super fun.
3 Mile White – Semi Dry muscadine that definitely had the muscadine flavor, but they had taken off that sweet edge that can make muscadines taste sugary, so this tasted like a true authentic muscadine.
Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve – A special opportunity! This was a cabernet stored for 100 days in a Buffalo Trace whiskey barrel. Excellent! Super smooth and made us crave a medium rare steak or smoked brisket (which is would beautifully complement)
Michael Monsoor – Sparkling white, very similar to the 3 Mile White, just with bubbles. Very refreshing, like a carbonated bubbly muscadine and the bubbles off-set the muscadine taste that can so often linger ion your mouth.
We had a delightful time, impressed by the wines, liked that Currahee attracted a crowd on a hot weekend, and we will return. Be sure to tip 15-20% off your tab and be sure to tell the fine staff at Currahee you read about them on NorthGeorgiaCulture.com.
