July 2025 updated review: Stopped by for lunch and for the first time sis not opt for the traditional famous fish that I love, but went for the 3 piece catfish. Outstanding and rivaled any catfish we have had in the area. Breading is not sweet but does have its own spice. The catfish remained hot after the 15 minute drive home and while flaky, it did not fall apart. Outstanding and rivaled any catfish we have had in the area. Will be ordering the catfish again and as always, the staff were pleasant and professional, and do allow for a few minutes for your food as it is not sitting under a heat lamp back there ready to go, so allow some time to allow them to prepare your fresh fish or chicken meal.
We do not often review drive-thru or pick-up or fast food restaurants that are part of a chain of restaurants, but the Cleveland, Georgia Captain D’s is a stand out and outstanding. Years back I had read somewhere that this particular Captain D’s had been recognized as a top performer, or diamond status, something like that, among all the Captain D’s family, so the expectations are high. The fried white fish is outstanding and rivals and is better than most we have had, and paid 3x more for, in New York City. The fish is prepared to order, so it remains hot if you take it home, and it is not greasy, the batter is flavorful, and again, you could offer this in a New York City bar or tavern and charge 3x. My wife always gets the catfish, which she knows well as she is a Georgia peach. The catfish is outstanding as well, not greasy, flavorful batter, and fresh. The sides are very good. We opt for broccoli and baked potato, but the french fries are good and fresh and the cole slaw is good and not sweet (how we prefer it). Since they cook and prepare everything to order, allow for time to wait for your food. The wait can be ten or fifteen minutes on occasion for a freshly prepared order, and the wait is worth it.
